Free class offered in online library research
The internet offers a wealth of information. Curious about an event or a person? Just enter it into a search engine and you’ll get pages and pages of websites to visit.
But can you trust what you find on those websites? How can you be sure you are getting the best, most current, most accurate information?
The Staples Public Library and Central Minnesota-North Adult Basic Education can help you become confident in your research. They are collaborating to offer a class for the public from 10 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Staples Library at 122 6th St. NE, Staples.
Space is limited so registration is requested by Dec. 1 by calling Amy at 218-894-5315. Laptops will be provided. Participants of all ages 16 years and older are welcome to attend.
As the volume of information grows in databases, libraries and on the internet, information literacy skills are key to being able to find and manage information effectively in a complex society.
Information literacy is about recognizing when information is needed, and locating, critically evaluating, using and presenting the information to suit a specific purpose.
These skills are increasingly in demand by individuals and employers alike.
Technicians from the Great River Regional Library system, of which the Staples Library is a member, will teach this free, two-hour module. You will be introduced to information literacy via the many various resources available to you through navigating the GRRL online.
