Staples native recovering in Missouri hospital

Staples native Matthew Sams was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Nov. 27, in Macon County, Mo. He was airlifted to the University of Missouri Hospital/Trauma Center in Columbia, Mo., where he is still receiving care for multiple lacerations and a severe head wound.

The incident happened at approximately 10 p.m., while Sams, 23, was on his way to work, according to information at his CaringBridge site.

It is expected that Sams will remain at the hospital for several weeks and possibly months while he is recovering.

Matthew is the son of Michael and Mary Sams of Staples and a 2011 graduate of Staples-Motley High School. He currently lives in Missouri where he works as a lineman for Hutton Contracting Co. Inc.

According to his sister, Rachel Connell, the family is hoping to raise money to cover medical expenses, as well as travel expenses for his parents during Matthew’s road to recovery.
