Veterans asked to use kiosks at health visits
In an effort to improve veterans’ health care experiences, we are in the process of adding additional self-service kiosks to streamline routine processes for veterans using our facilities. The VetLink kiosks are very similar to systems used in airport terminals.
Use the kiosk at your next visit
We know technology can be tough at first, but don’t panic. VetLink kiosks increase convenience for veterans.
Staff and volunteers can help veterans check in and to answer any other questions about the kiosks.
To use the VetLink kiosk, Veterans can use their Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC), or look themselves up using their social security number and date of birth.
Visually impaired veterans can also use Vetlink by inserting their ear buds into the audio jack located at the bottom right of the kiosk.
Easy to use touch screen
VetLink kiosks have touch-screen technology that provides easy access to check-in for appointments and make changes to health information.
On VetLink, you can:
o Check-in for a previously scheduled medical appointment
o View future appointments
o Request Beneficiary Travel reimbursement
o Request medical records
o Update contact and demographic information
o Validate insurance information
o Print an appointment itinerary slip
Convenient locations
VetLink kiosks are currently located throughout our facilities, including:
o PACT teams 2/3 (Bldg. 1)
o PACT teams 4/5 (Bldg. 1 Annex)
o PSM Specialty Clinic (Bldg. 29, 1st Floor, Room 107)
o Beneficiary Travel Office (Bldg. 5)
o Dental Clinic (Bldg. 3)
o Outpatient Mental Health Clinic (Bldg. 111)
o Brainerd, Montevideo and, coming soon, at the Max J. Beilke (Alexandria) VA Clinics
Check in for an appointment
o Select the “Check-in for Appointment” option.
o Use the bar code scanner to read your Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC). Forgot your VHIC? You can also enter your social security number.
o Enter your date of birth and verify your identity.
o Update your address, phone number and personal information using the touchscreen keypad, as needed.
o Confirm your appointment.
Ask staff and/or volunteers to assist you if needed. Note that check-in using the kiosk is available within 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment time and you must check in the designated clinic area where your appointment is scheduled. If you want to check in earlier than 15 minute prior to your appointment, see the clerk.
Request your records
Aside from check-in, one of the most popular features is the ability to request medical records at the kiosk. This saves a trip to the Release of Information Office and records requests can be made even when the ROI Office is closed.
The process is very simple as the software steps you through the form asking them to specify date and type of documents being requested. The veteran completes the request by signing on the screen much the same as other electronic keypads. The request is then electronically sent to the ROI Office to process, and the records are mailed to you.
Request beneficiary travel reimbursement
Another popular feature is the ability to request beneficiary travel reimbursement without standing in line.
o Select the “Request Beneficiary Travel for today” on the welcome screen
o Use the bar code scanner to read your Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC). Forgot your VHIC? You can also enter your social security number.
o Follow the prompts to agree to conditions and certify the request is correct
o Sign to authorize and submit the request
o Confirm submission
We are committed to serving veterans and meeting their changing needs. VetLink kiosks increase convenience.
