Motley City Council approves 2017 preliminary budget and levy
At a special meeting Sept. 20, the Motley City Council approved both the proposed levy and the preliminary budget for 2017, as presented by Interim City Clerk Scott Saehr.
The total proposed levy for 2017 is $358,206, an approximately three percent increase from last year’s levy.
Present at the meeting were council members Pat O’Regan, Amy Hutchison and Steve Johnson; Public Works Supervisor Bruce Brotherton; and Saehr.
Prior to their unanimous vote, the council spent time discussing the proposed levy and budget with Saehr and Brotherton. All those present were adamant that they did not want to exceed the three percent levy increase.
The proposed levy shows a four percent increase in the general fund; an 11 percent increase in the streets improvement fund; and four percent decreases in both the Beaulieu Project and 2011A Street bonds.
Before the final budget and levy is voted on in December, the council and city staff will have some time to go over the budget details. They plan to schedule another budget meeting in October.
