The Motley Fair runs June 17 - 19

The Morrison County Fair in Motley opens Friday, June 17 and runs through Sunday, June 19. ‘Entry day’ is Thursday, June 16. The fair is being held in conjunction with June Fest.

This family friendly event offers something for everyone, including a lawn mower pull, magic show, demo derby, food, animal shows and inflatable bouncer activities for kids.

For the first time in fair history, a bull riding show will take place at the fairgrounds. People of all ages will enjoy the ‘Meech Bucking Bulls & Great Frontier’ show on Friday, June 17, 7 p.m.

Stop by the Leader Lions Eatery for a burger, pie and other goodies; and be sure to check out the other food vendors on site as well. 

Some of the highlights of this year’s fair are included below:

Friday, June 17

The fair opens at 10 a.m. with 4-H Horse Judging at the grandstand. At 1 p.m., the 4-H Conference Judging begins and the FFA Petting Zoo opens as well. Judging of other categories (including flowers, farm crops and hobbies) will take place at 5 p.m.

A variety of displays will be set up at the Commercial Building, which opens at noon each day of the fair.

Alathea Kenney, with North Country Medicinals Homeopathics, will be speaking under the shelter at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In addition to the Bull Riding Show at the grandstand, stop by the shelter from 7:30 - 11:30 p.m. and enjoy music by a local DJ.

The fair closes at midnight.

Saturday, June 18

It’s ‘Kids Day’ at the fair all day. Starting at 9:30 a.m., young people will have the opportunity to stop by the ‘wood shop’ and build a birdhouse or toolbox, with materials donated by Paskewitz Millwork of Browerville. There is no cost for this activity hosted by the Motley Boy Scouts.

Animal judging continues on Saturday, with cattle and swine judged at 10 a.m., sheep and goats at 11 am., and rabbits at 3 p.m.

The ‘Goat Milking Contest’ is back by popular demand and will take place immediately following the goat judging.

Kids won’t want to miss ‘The Amazing Roberto Magic Show’ which has been a crowd favorite  in years past. Show times begin at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. under the shelter.

The ‘Famous L.A. Racing Pigs’ will be at the horse arena Saturday afternoon.  Although no strangers to the Motley area, this is the first time the pigs will bring their races to the Motley Fairgrounds. Showtimes begin at  1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sponsored by June Fest.

At 7 p.m., the demo derby takes place at the grandstand. Tickets available at the gate. 

From 7:30 - 11:30 p.m., the teen band ‘Disaster Area’ of Long Prairie will provide music under the shelter.

At 10 p.m., there will be fireworks, sponsored by June Fest.

Sunday, June 19

Sunday is designated as ‘Senior Citizen Day’ at the fair, with a variety of tournaments scheduled throughout the day. Old time music will be played while free coffee and cookies are offered from 1 - 4 p.m. under the shelter.

Antique tractors will be on display at noon; and a  prize will be awarded for ‘best of show.’ Also at noon, a 4-H exhibitor potluck meal will be held at the fairgrounds, sponsored by 4-H.

If you like competition, stop by the arena at 1 p.m. for the seventh annual ‘Farmer Olympics,’ hosted  by the Staples Motley FFA. This free event includes a cow chip toss, hay bale toss, wheelbarrow race, seed spitting, water bucket race and tire pull. All ages and all ‘farmers’  are welcome.

A ‘Lawn Mower Pull’ will be held at the grandstand, beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome, registration opens at noon.  This event is hosted by Mid-Central Pullers L.L.C. and more information can be found at www.midcentralpullers.webs.com or by calling 218-820-6504.

From noon - 3 p.m., there will be the Staples Motley Baseball Team dunking booth.

At 4 p.m., the 4-H Awards Ceremony will be held under the shelter.
