New intern on board at Motley City Hall

If you stop by Motley City Hall these days, most likely you will be greeted by Megan Oldakowski, an intern who is working at the front desk, assisting interim city clerk, Scott Saehr.

Oldakowski, who hails from the Royalton area, came on board in early July. She is working through National Joint Powers Alliance, at no cost to the city. Her hours are 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Wednesday.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” Oldakowski said recently. “I worked with Scott (Saehr) in the past at Smude’s Sunflower Oil and thought this would be a great chance to work together again.”

In addition to answering phones, greeting customers and taking care of some day-to-day tasks, Oldakowski is learning about the other duties required of a city clerk as she works alongside Saehr. “It’s been great to be able to learn what this sort of job is like before diving into it.”

As a former city administrator for the City of Pierz, Saehr brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, Oldakowski said. The plan is for her to stay on as the interim clerk when Saehr leaves. “I’m figuring it out as we go along.”

Oldakowski is a 2014 graduate of Pierz Healy High School. She is currently studying managerial accounting through an online course at St. Catherine University. “I have one year to go. I had completed one year of college during high school before attending two years at St. Kate’s,” she said.

In addition to her interest in business, Oldakowski is passionate about art and writing. She recently published her first children’s book, “The Emeowment of Felis.” In addition to writing the story, Oldakowski provided all of the artwork in the book. More information about her work can be found online at www.meganoldakowski.wix.com/books.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” she said of seeing her book come to life.

She’s also been enjoying her time in Motley, Oldakowski said. “People have been very patient with Scott and me during these first few weeks. It’s much appreciated.”
