Children’s theater auditions

The Staples Motley Area Arts Council auditions for Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre’s original musical production of “A Midsumer Night’s Dream” will be held Sunday, July 24, at 5 p.m. at the Centennial Auditorium in Staples.

Up to 70 young people, ages 7-18, are needed to play the roles of Buck, Luck, Yuck-Yuck, and the rest of the Groundlings; Titania, Oberon, Pease Blossom, Cobweb, Moth, Mustardseed, and the rest of the Sprites; Quince, Flute, Starveling, Snout, Snug, and the Understudies of the acting troupe, The Duke, Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, Helena, and the rest of the Noblemen and Noblewomen. 

Two professional actors will direct the production and act in the roles of the mischievous sprite, Puck and the colorful Nick Bottom.

The play was adapted by former Prairie Fire managing director Ben Ratkowski and designed by executive director Deborah Nelson Pick, with original music by Daniel Stock. The show is a joyful romp of mistaken identity and pranks, all played out during a midsummer’s evening. 

No advance preparation is necessary for the audition session which will last two hours. Everyone auditioning is required to stay for the entire session, as the cast will be announced at the end of the two hour audition. There is a registration fee.

Each cast member will receive a rehearsal schedule for the remainder of the week. Rehearsals will be held from 5 - 9 p.m.

Two performances are scheduled for Friday, July 29, at 5 p.m. and at 7 p.m. at Centennial Auditorium, Staples. Tickets will be available at the door.
