First time for Staples to host feedlot meeting

Per request of Todd County livestock producers, this year’s feedlot meeting will go north to the Staples area for the first time Thursday, March 16, at Central Lakes College (CLC), from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

With the ever-growing number of attendees, CLC can accommodate the crowd in its newly renovated and spacious forum area. Last year’s meeting filled all 170 seats and 2017 topics are equally likely to pique the interest of just as many.

A new addition this year is TODTalks - Ideas Worth “Spreading” (a spin-off of MPR’s TED Talk radio series). TODTalks will feature local producers discussing “The Status of Ag in Todd County - Decisions and Transitions Made to Survive the Ebb of Agriculture.”

Among the list of presentations for the day is: Integrating Livestock into Cropping Systems, Kent Solberg; Uncovering the Myths of Cover Crops: What Works? What Doesn’t? in Todd County, James Schroepfer, Ag Resource Consulting; and “I Just Can’t Picture It!” Vegetative Treatment Areas and other Feedlot Solutions, West Central Technical Engineers.

Deja Anton, SWCD, and Russ Kleinschmidt, NRCS, will tackle the theme of “Pasture Vs. Feedlot and other Topics we Don’t Like!”

This year’s event and buffet, catered by Ted and Gen’s, is free to producers within Todd and Crow Wing counties (limited). The coffee and pastry social begins at 9:30 a.m. Call 320-732-2644 to RSVP.
