How many city council meetings does the Staples World staff attend? How many school board meetings?

How many photos are published in a year? how many obituaries? births? 

Norah Anderson, our summer intern, took a quick look at 2016 and came up with these statistics:

o Stories were written about 117 government meetings, including 22 for Staples City Council, 13 for Motley City Council, 22 for Staples-Motley School Board, 10 for Staples Economic Development Authority and 49 for Todd and Wadena county boards. These included work sessions and special meetings.

o Over 1,150 photos taken by Staples World staff were published. Many more were taken that we didn’t have room to publish. All Staples World photos are available for sale at http://staplesworld.dotphoto.com.

o Over 670 photos were submitted for publication by you, our readers. Thank you for letting us share your stories!

o More than 1,150 advertisements were published. Thank you for allowing us to help you promote your business, your products and services.

o 173 obituaries were published. We were privileged to tell brief versions of the stories of these valuable lives. Many genealogy researchers visit our office to search through our archives for dates, places of burial and extended family members.

o 397 births were announced in our pages. We are proud to help you share your good news. This is a favorite part of the tour when Scouts or classes visit the newspaper. They love to look up their birth announcements in our archives. 

o 215 garage sales were advertised on our classified pages. Glad we could help you clean those closets and make room in the garage for your car.

o In 2016 we printed over 96,000 copies of the newspaper and over 504,000 copies of the Square Shooter shopper.
