Forsberg earns Tusculum College President’s Award

Nick Forsberg of Staples was presented the President’s Award at ceremonies held at Tusculum College, Greeneville, TN. The President’s Award is presented to the graduating senior who has contributed the most to the college and who has been the most outstanding achiever in the combined areas of academic work, athletics, campus leadership and personality. The selection is made based on the student’s total four-year record at Tusculum. Forseberg graduated May 7, from Tusculum with a cumulative 3.73 GPA, majoring in sports management. 

Dr. Nancy B. Moody, president of Tusculum, presented the award to Forsberg who excelled in both the classroom and on the links as a member of the Pioneer Men’s Golf Team. Throughout his time at Tusculum, he was listed on the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Tusculum College Dean’s List and the Charles Oliver Gray Scholars List. He was named SAC Men’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, received Capital One Academic All-District first team and Golf Coaches Association of America All America Scholar honors. In 2015, Nick received the top academic award presented to a student in physical education, sports management and sports science majors.

Forsberg also earned other athletic honors including: 2015 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and was selected to the 2014 and 2015 SAC All-Tournament teams. He was a member of the history making team in 2015, to win the SAC Tournament Championship for Tusculum College, the  first ever for the team to advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

With a packed academic and athletic schedule, Forsberg committed himself to being an active member of the Tusculum College community and giving back. He has served for the past two years as the president of the Pioneer Student Athlete Advisory Council; volunteers at the Greene County Food Bank, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and volunteers for junior golf camps in Minnesota.

Nick is the son of Mark and Joanne Forsberg of Staples and a 2012 graduate of Staples Motley High School. He will return to Tusculum in August accepting an internship with the athletic director, working on his masters in Human Resources.
