Motley-Staples Junior Spelling Bee

Students in fifth grade at Motley-Staples Middle School participated in the first Junior Spelling Bee Jan. 24. A total of 17 contestants qualified for the spelling bee by taking a written exam. It took nine rounds to determine this year’s champion, Aaron Payne (upper right photo) and the runner-up Brendan Macheel. Payne earned the championship by correctly spelling ‘tuition.’
