Todd County Historical Society

The Todd County Historical Society held their regular meeting Feb. 6, at the museum. Vice President Ron Wienhold called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

November 2016 minutes were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report for November was approved. 

De’s museum report included: 

o We’ve received our annual county payment. 

o We were given 41 deeds of gifts in 2016. Three of the largest were; the organ from the Leslie Church, a sulky from Henry Wilberts and an old phonograph from Pete Thieschafer.

o Joan Pesta and Annette Skiftun are still working on the country school project.

o We had 308 visitors and 80 fourth graders tour the museum in 2016. 

o Syd and Nancy Kjeldahl made donations in memory of Ken and Alma Lindstrom and Russ Gjerstad.

o A new phone system has been installed.

o The cost of the security system plus three cameras was $3,249.68. Visitors can now be viewed on a computer screen in the office.

o Cards and a gift have been sent to Gary Stracek.

Marilyn Gibson has been updating our church files.

We’ve hired a new assistant curator, Bunny Johnson from Swanville, there’s a six-month probationary period.

Lorna Hunter is compiling a cookbook as a fundraiser for the Christie House and is gathering recipes for the book. Anyone interested in submitting old family favorite recipes along with their history or recent recipes, can send them to; Christie House, PO Box 25, Long Prairie, MN 56347.

We our plant sale will be held May 19, during the city-wide garage sale.

Nancy Kjeldahl has donated the book “School Days and Farm Chores” and can be checked out by museum members. The book has stories written by people, of their memories of Northwestern Minnesota, including Todd County. 

Our next meeting will be on March 6 at 1:30 p.m.

After the meeting, Ron Wienhold gave a short program on the Christmas cactus.
