‘Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs’ event

Fourth graders at Staples Elementary, Motley Elementary and Sacred Heart Area School recently participated in the ‘Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs’ event at Camp Shamineau in rural Motley. The event was sponsored by the Staples Host Lions and organized by Ron Case, Staples Police Department; and Jeremy Reeck and Jamie Dolezal with the Staples Fire Department. Several other members of the Staples Police and Fire Departments volunteered their services that day as well. Thanks to the Lions, each student received a T-shirt, fishing pole and tackle; and lunch. They also enjoyed fishing on Lake Shamineau and reported catching (and releasing) several muskies, bass and sunfish. Pictured above, Amy Rollins and Gabby Case, SES fourth graders, head back to shore in a boat driven by Mike Rollins. Pictured, lower left, Staples Host Lions Frank Leidenfrost, Huck Holst, Ken Christensen and Kevin Roline set out lunch for the students. Pictured in lower right with their new fishing poles are Amy Rollins and Gabby Case.
