Early Farmers Market season
The Staples Area Farmers Market openend at their Lakewood Health System location Thursday, May 12, amid chilling winds. Vendors had greens, baked goods and canned goods, plus a couple of rutabegas that stayed in the ground over the winter. This year the markets will have card readers for credit cards. People can also use their EBT cards to purchase items.
The market at Lakewood Health System will be every Thursday from 2-5:30 p.m. Other area farmers markets are expected to start after Memorial Day, including Tuesdays, 2-5:30 p.m. at the Verndale Railroad Park; Wednesdays 2-5 p.m. next to the Hewitt post office; and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the junction of Highways 10 and 210 in Staples.
