One injured in vehicle fire

The Staples and Verndale Fire Departments responded to a report of a vehicle fire west of Staples in Thomastown Township at approximately 4:44 p.m. Oct. 13. Firefighters arrived on scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed and proceeded to put out the fire. There was additional damage to trees and grass. An adult male, the owner of the vehicle, was transported to Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples for injuries he sustained from the fire. No names are being released at this point as the incident is under investigation. Other responders included the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office. (Staples World photos by Dawn Timbs)
