School hosts music contest
hool hosted the Section 6A Music Solo/Ensemble contest May 7.
A total of 205 events were scheduled that day. In addition to SMHS, nine other schools participated in the contest. These included Verndale, Pillager, Wadena-Deer Creek, Sebeka, Pequot Lakes, Pine River-Backus, Browerville, New York Mills and Osakis.
Staples Motley music students performed in 87 events (42 percent). Of the 205 events, 29 were recognized as “Best In Site.” Of those 29, Staples Motley music students accounted for 14 (48 percent).
Choir director Steve Hoemberg said, “As a department, we would like to recognize the significant contribution of our accompanists Cindy Koopmann, Molly Bass, Deb Haroldson, Lori Bates and Tony Sanders.” He noted that Paskewitz was unable to serve as an accompanist that day, because her daughter was getting married.

o Woodwind ensemble - Amy Lochli, Kayt Klein, Rebecca Daly, Sarah Marte, Samantha Simon, Sienna Lingenfelter, Taylor Heldman, Vera Robinson, Erickson, Millie Klefsaas, Iverson, Alyssa Bartkowicz, Brian Sterriker.
