Seamann, Miller named Students of Character

Trinity Seamann and Hunter Miller were the two Staples-Motley High School students honored at the Sourcewell Students of Character Celebration on April 19, at Madden’s on Gull Lake.

Forty-six juniors and seniors from high schools throughout the area – including Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena counties – were honored at a special event recognizing students for their quiet leadership, perseverance, and dedication to their community, school, and fellow students. Each honoree was selected by their respective school staff and presented with a $750 scholarship, made possible by business and community donations.

During the event, one inspirational story after another was shared, along with some laughs and a few tears.

“This event continues to get better and better each year,” says Sourcewell Executive Director and CEO Dr. Chad Coauette. “These students and their stories absolutely blow my mind. You have a group of students defying the odds; some who never thought they’d see high school graduation. And they’re all up on stage being honored, recognized, and celebrated for their accomplishments.”

The Students of Character Celebration recognizes high school juniors and seniors in our region for their quiet leadership, perseverance, and dedication to their community, school, and fellow students.

Honorees are selected by their school staff with the criteria that they are unsung heroes of their districts. The event celebrates the difference these students make and lets them know we appreciate and believe in them

The two Staples-Motley students were selected by High School Principal Debbie Ferdon. At the April school board meeting, Ferdon told the board that Miller said his goal is to make someone smile every day, and Seamann said her goal is to give someone a compliment every day.

Below are the comments in the Students of Character program about each student.

Hunter Miller

Hunter has a personality that makes people want to be around him. He has grown into a leader through sports and mentoring younger students. While working with a seventh-grade math class, he encouraged them to work hard, adding he wished he had worked harder as a middle-schooler. These remarks made a bigger impact than he will ever realize.

Trinity Seamann

Trinity doesn’t allow past challenges to define her. She sees the obstacles that she has been through as another step in her journey. She lost her mother suddenly three years ago, and while that was a devastating loss, she has shown strength and resiliency by continuing to work hard in school and support herself and her family through difficult times.
