Seeking local candidates

Several people have filed for seats in local elections, but still more are needed to fill all the open seats. The filing period is Aug. 2-16.

As of Aug. 9, two current Staples-Motley School Board members have filed for re-election; Chad Longbella and Bryan Winkels. There are three seats open on the school board.

The City of Staples has four council seats and the mayor seat up for election. Three people have filed for the council seats; Charles Tester, Rachel Johnson and Mary Theurer. As of Aug. 9, no others had filed for the council or for mayor.

Two council positions and the mayor’s job will be open in the City of Motley. Al Yoder and Amy Hutchinson have filed for mayor. Both are current council members but their seats are not up for election this year. The terms of Steve Johnson and Pat O’Regan are expiring this year and both have filed for reelection.

Candidates for mayor and council member must file with the city clerk. Candidates for school board must file at the school’s  district office.
