Transition teams work for smooth Re-Start

Friendship Day

Staples Motley schools have created transition plans to accommodate the redistribution of students and teachers to school sites that will be in effect this fall. As part of this process, community members, families, staff and students were asked to be a part of each building’s Transition Team. The role of the Transition Team is to identify specific activities and communication that must be completed to ensure a smooth transition for students to the new buildings next school year.

The redistribution will move all K-3rd grade students to the elementary building in Staples, all 4th - 7th grade students to the middle school building in Motley and all 8th - 12th grade students to the high school building in Staples.

During discussions, both the elementary and middle school Transition Teams decided it was important to focus on helping students feel comfortable with the upcoming changes. Friendship Day was created to help both Staples and Motley students learn about their new schools and meet other students.

On May 24, current Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade Motley students will be welcomed to the elementary school in Staples. Current Staples 3rd and 4th grade students will be welcomed to the middle school in Motley. Students will be transported by bus for a few hours during the school day. Students will meet all teachers for their grade, play games to be introduced to each other and have lunch together as a full grade.

Parents are welcome to attend Friendship Day, if interested. Parents should RSVP to the appropriate school prior to May 24 in order for food service to have the correct lunch numbers for that day. Parents and families will be invited to school open houses in August. They will be able to tour the schools and meet teachers with their students during these open houses.

Both Motley and Staples 5th graders will meet during the day at the middle school on May 12 for a separate welcome and informational tour.

Incoming 8th graders have already been introduced to high school staff and taken a tour of the building. The open house was held on April 18.
