John Schmitt

John William Schmitt, 79, of Baxter, formerly of Staples, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 5, 2023. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13, at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services at the church. 

Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. 

John was born July 7, 1944 in Staples to John Michael and Tracy (Bittner) Schmitt. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara Jean Williamson on May 23, 1969. John and his wife were owner/operators of the Schmitt Feed Store until it was sold in 2006. He worked hard and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, but most of all his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; one son, Jason (Denise) Schmitt; two daughters, Marnie (Tony) Loftus, Sheila (Ben) Busker; six grandchildren, Jalen, Reid, Isabella, Sydnie, Austin and Landon; one great-grandson, Brooks; one sister, Betty Gold; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.
