Janet Martin

Janet Martin, 80, of Staples passed away September 30, 2024, at the Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples.

Funeral services were  held October 11 at the Staples Assembly of God Church

Burial was at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

On February 17, 1944, Janet Hilda was welcomed into the world in Eureka, Dakota. She was the daughter of Eugene and Hilda (Joachim) Haidle. Janet graduated from high school. It was while out with friends that a young man named George Martin started teasing her. Janet eventually teased him back and this led to a friendship that blossomed into love. They were united in marriage on April 6, 1963, at the Church of Christ in Staples. The couple raised three boys in Staples, Edward, Bruce and Gerald. Janet was very busy raising her family. In her down time, she spent time in her vast vegetable garden. She was an avid canner and baker, her homemade bread was a favorite of her family. She volunteered at their church, helping with communion, church dinners and teaching religion classes. She had a strong faith and enjoyed the time with children sharing her Savior’s love. Janet made a point of crocheting items for every child and grandchild, making them a gift of love and a memory to last a lifetime.

Janet’s love for her family was great - becoming a grandma was one of her “best days ever”. Her grandchildren became a light in her heart, and she enjoyed every second she was able to spend with her family. When her grandkids were younger, they would come and stay with her every summer, helping her with the garden and making special memories that will last a lifetime.

Janet leaves behind her three children, Edward (Terri) Martin, Bruce Martin and Gerald (Lori) Martin; three grandchildren, Zachary Martin, Megan Martin and Hannah (Mitch Feda) Martin; five great-grandchildren, Remington Martin, Charlotte Martin, Keegan Kilgore, Georgia Kilgore and Adelynn Feda; two brothers, Kenneth (Margie) and Terry (Dee) and many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Martin; parents and two brothers, Delphane and Curtis.

Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home of Browerville.
