Staples Area Women's Chorus

Her Voice, Her Song

Featuring NDSU director

Dr. Charlotte Moe from North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo, ND  will be the guest director for this year’s women’s choral festival Her Voice, Her Song set for Jan. 30 at Staples Motley High School.

Women’s choruses from seventeen area schools have been invited to join the Staples Area Women’s Chorus at this annual event. The day’s activities will culminate with a public concert at 7 p.m. at the high school gymnasium.

Tickets are available at the Staples World, Nelsons Insurance Agency, Markus Hair Design in Motley and from the Staples Area Women’s Chorus members.

The goal of this project is to bring women singers together to experience the joy of singing and improve musical performance skills in an inter-generational environment. The Staples Area Women’s Chorus will serve as mentors to high school and college young women by sharing their mature voices and encouraging a lifelong love of music. All singers will be challenged to raise their level of musicianship with a commitment to excellence.

Moe joined the NDSU Music faculty in the fall of 2008. She serves as a coordinator for the Masters of Music in Music Education degree, teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in music and choral education and supervises student teachers.

Moe is also the conductor of Cantemus, the NDSU women’s choir, and University Chamber Singers. In addition, she is the Orff course director at NDSU, holds a Kodály Mastery Certificate from St. Thomas, is a faculty member at the Kodály Institute at Minnesota State University and is the upper-level Diamond choir conductor for the Fargo-Moorhead Youth Choir. Prior to her appointment at NDSU, she was adjunct faculty at Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Moe co-edited the Music of the Americas monograph published by the American Choral Directors Association, served as a section-coach for the Minnesota All-State Choir, adjudicated for North Dakota All-State and vocal solo/ensemble contests.

The festival will also feature Clara Osowski, an active interpreter of oratorio and art song throughout the United States. She was a 2012 Metropolitan Opera National Council Upper-Midwest Regional Finalist, runner-up in the 2012 Schubert Club Bruce P. Carlson Scholarship Competition, and was named the winner of the 2014 Bel Canto Chorus Regional Artists Competition in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Osowski received her Bachelor of Musical Arts degree with emphasis in Voice from NDSU, and Master of Arts Degree in Voice from the University of Iowa.
