Alice Sather

Alice Sather, 102, of Wadena and formerly of Staples went to be with her Lord and Savior May 27, 2021.

Services will be held Sat., June 19 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples to celebrate Alice’s long life, lived well.

Alice Beilke Bergeson Sather was born May 7, 1919  the daughter of Louis and Anna (Maltz) Beilke at Bertha.

She was baptized into the Christian faith June 1, 1919 and confirmed at Peace Evangelical Church, Bertha on July 2, 1933.

He education began in a one room rural school house, District 59, the oldest one room school in Todd County. After that she attended public school in Bertha, graduating with the class of 1936.

Alice was employed by Northwestern Bell for 17 years, in Wadena and Staples.

On May 27, 1944 she married Donald Bergeson at Wadena. Don was killed in Iwo Jima in WWII on March 10, 1945. On January 18, 1951 Alice was united in marriage to Henry Sather at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples.

She was an active and faithful member of Faith Lutheran. Her service included many years with the Altar Guild, FLCW, Circles and Council. Alice loved to decorate for any and all occasions. The lutefisk suppers were one of the highlights of the church year. She also loved making greeting cards for church since the 1970s. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Alice’s favorite past times were fishing, all sports - especially the Twins; cooking, canning, baking brownies and chocolate chip cookies, reading until she lost her sight. In fact, all things in nature were special and precious to her.

Alice is survived by Godchild and nephew, John Judkins; two great nephews, Daniel and Nathan Judkins; two great-nieces, Hannah Judkins and Amanda Dandl and Amanda’s daughter, Brazia; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Betty, Helen, Mildred and Henrietta and one infant brother, Louis John.
