Betty Haskin
Betty Lyons Haskin, 85, of Staples, passed away September 4, 2016 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sept. 10 at the Staples Congregational Church, with Pastor Tony Romaine officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Betty was born January 1, 1931 in Staples, to Arthur and Ethel (Bastin) Lyons. She lived her entire life in Staples. After school, she worked at the Ben Franklin store in Staples. Betty married Byron (Bud) Haskin on July 18, 1950 in Staples. They purchased the Phillips 66 gas station on Hwy. 210 from Bud’s father. Bud worked the service station and Betty was a homemaker. When their children were in their later years of schooling, Betty worked for Goepherd Furniture and the License Bureau. She purchased the license bureau and ran it until 1998. Betty enjoyed working for the Evergreen Hill Cemetery Board for the past 15 years. The Haskin’s owned a cabin on Fish Trap Lake where they enjoyed their time there. Betty often went on the bus going to one of the many casinos with her friends. Family and friends never left her house without a care package. She especially enjoyed baking cookies.
Betty is survived by her husband; two sons, Larry (Cathy) Haskin, Maple Grove and Scott (Pamela) Haskin of Verndale; one daughter, Linda (Jeff) Johnson of Staples; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, James and Hilma Haskin; one brother, Ralph (Elaine) Lyons and one granddaughter.
