Brad Bredemeier
Virgil “Brad” Bredemeier, 96, of Staples passed away September 11, 2016, at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 15 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastors Steve Sveom and Eugene Floistad officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment with Military Honors provided by Motley American Legion Post #124 will be held at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Arrangements were by the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
Brad was born March 29, 1920 in Barnesville to John and Bertha (Larson) Bredemeier. He graduated from Barnesville High School and then entered the U.S. Naval Air Force. Brad attended college at the Illinois School of Optometry in Chicago, IL. He was united in marriage to Gladys (Peggy) Hildebrand on December 20, 1947 in Prairie Du Chien, WI. Brad started his optometric practice in Staples in 1949. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, Faith Lutheran Church, the Staples Motley Chamber of Commerce, the Staples Host Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. He received the Staples Motley Area Community Foundation Chairman’s Award in 2013 and served on the Staples City Council for over 20 years. Brad enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Brenda (David Light Shields) Bredemeier of St. Louis, MO and Julie (Ryan) Jagim of Duluth; grandchildren, Micah Light Shields and Maya Light Bredemeier, Andrew (Amanda) Burns, Alex (Jeannie) Burns, Andrew (Vanessa) Jagim, Ben Jagim, Eric (Katrina) Jagim and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Wallace.
