Charles Bielefeld
Charles Bielefeld, 93, of Verndale, passed away August 10, 2016 at Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.
Services were held August 17, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Joe Korf officiating.
Interment was at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Arrangements were with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
Charles was born December 22, 1922 in Goodale, Iowa to Charles and Leona (Hood) Bielefeld. He attended country school and graduated from high school in Rockwell, Iowa. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He married Margaret (Dutch) Smith on January 29, 1951 in Loudes, Iowa. Charles and Margaret farmed near Dougherty, Lime Springs and Osage, Iowa. Farming was Charles’ life. He worked at the Oliver Tractor Foundry in Charles City and later worked at the arsenal factory in Anoka. He enjoyed fixing antique John Deere tractors, Sunday picnics, rides, horses and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Dutch); two daughters, Colleen Weber, Sandra Sneed; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Patty Smith; sister-in-law, Lenora Bielefeld; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Patrick and Joseph; infant daughter, Mary; three brothers, Bill, Walt and Daryl; one sister, Joann Smith; two brothers-in-law, Merlyn Smith and Warren Smith; sister-in-law, Mary Moore and her husband, Phil Moore.
