Colleen J. Christensen, 68, of Willmar, passed away March 22, 2018, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 13, at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar followed by a social dance at Colleen’s School of Dance. Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, from 5-7 p.m. at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home, Willmar.
Colleen Joyce Christensen was born March 9, 1950, to Marion Jerome Jr. and Corleen (Crosby) Scanlon in Willmar. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1968. She attended the University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin and graduating with a degree in Physical Education and Health. Colleen married George A. Christensen August 18, 1972. They made their home in Beloit, WI. Colleen worked as a substitute teacher in the Beloit School District; in 1980, they moved to Willmar where Colleen owned and operated Colleen’s School of Dance for 25 years and later worked as a medical assistant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, active in choir, Bible study, mission trips and Christian Women United. She was also active with dancing associations,the local DFL Party and enjoyed traveling with her family.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kari Erickson of Motley and Cory Christensen of Willmar; three grandchildren, Josie Erickson, Alex Erickson and Elliot Christensen; two sisters, Cathy Kircher of Seattle, WA and Nancy (Bill) Orta of Tucson, AZ, along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary, in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church Mission Fund are preferred.
