David Tervonen
David Andrew Tervonen, 66, of Staples, passed away April 4, 2018, at the Harmony House in Motley.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Staples Alliance Church, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. A luncheon will follow the services.
Interment and a graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Chisholm Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow at First Baptist Church, Chisholm.
Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel, Staples.
David was born September 17, 1951 to Toivo and Helena (Rae) Tervonen in Chisholm. After high school, he continued his education and received BS Degrees in English Education and Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. David dedicated 22 years to teaching at Victory Christian Academy and Hibbing High School. In 1972, he married Patty Hanson. David was a member of the Staples Men’s Chorus and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping and was a sports fan. David cherished spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Noelle (Mike) Hudalla, of Staples and Leah (Brian) Wiger, of Columbia, SC and Shayna Tervonen, of Stacy; one son, David (Meghan) Tervonen, of Bemidji; two grandchildren; two sisters, Ulla (Derek) Smith, of Monticello and Anneli Bakk, of AK; a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Allan.
David’s battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lyme Disease was a hard struggle. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorials for research of those diseases.
