Elaine (Winter) Cherro
Elaine F. (Winter) Cherro, 84, of Motley passed away October 7, 2018 at Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.
Funeral services will be held Sat., Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. at Motley United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Leslie officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Arrangements are with Taylor Funeral Care, Staples.
Elaine was born April 2, 1934 to Andrew and Margaret (Jensen) Winter in Wadena County. She married Richard Mertens August 13, 1951 and had four children. Later she married Prosper Cherro on April 25, 1997.
Elaine was a creative and talented seamstress (mending to creating wedding and Christening gowns). She did embroidery, quilting, creating beautiful things and over time Elaine completed over 500 quilts for friends and family. She donated many of her pieces for various benefits. Elaine was also an avid reader.
Elaine is survived by two sons, Steven Mertens of Staples and Daniel Mertens of Pelican Rapids, two daughters, Patty (Charlie) Schroeder of Little Falls and Julie (Clark) Dahl of Staples; six grandchildren, Janine (Thom) Paxson, St. Cloud, Amy (Jim) Olafson, Eagan, Kris (Ali) Mertens, Otsego, Andy (Sara) Mertens, Rice, Jessi (Pat) Mertens, Staples and Lacey Fellman of Staples; 11 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriella, Ayla, Lyza, Rudy, Conner, Rylan, Brekken, Kinsley, Ariya and Brinley; five sisters, Lauraine Ulik, Janette (Jim) Lee, Betty (Paul) Wicht, Shelly Morton and Linda Busche and one brother, Rodney Winter,
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Richard and Prosper; one stillborn daughter; one brother, Dwaine and sister-in-law, Fran Winter and brother-in-law, Ray Ulik.
