Elnora Dempsey

Elnora Marie (Nelson) Dempsey, 81, of Verndale passed away November 9, 2021 at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, surrounded by her family. 

A memorial burial service will be held at a later date at the Verndale Greenlawn Cemetery. 

Elnora (Nellie) was born March 4, 1940 to Frances and Pauline (Sweet) Nelson.  She was the fifth of 11 children.

She married the love of her life, Donald J. Dempsey on January 2, 1960 and they had four wonderful children. Elnora worked as a waitress, dietary aid and was a homemaker. She loved spending holidays with family, baking, traveling and going to casinos. She always had an ear for listening and a warm heart.

She is survived by four children, Brian Dempsey of Verndale, Colleen Dempsey of New York Mills, Daniel Dempsey of Staples and Cheryl (Larry) Kennedy of Shakopee; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Juanita (Richard) Alley of Minnetonka, Rosemary (Reginald) Petrich of Staples, Patranel (Gary) Steinke of Dawson, Dorothy Hall, Waite Park and one brother, Charles Nelson of Ashley, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Ruth Hanson, Francis Winter, Pauline Beach and two brothers, Ronald and Jim Nelson. 

Honorary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren.
