Evelyn was born October 12, 1915 in Turtle Creek Township south of Staples to Hayden and Lois (Hanley) Tyrrell. In her youth summers were spent planting, hoeing and picking acres of strawberries, raspberries, melons and cucumbers. At the age of 13 she and her sister, Ruth, age 12, rented a room in Staples so they could attend high school. Following high school she attended Normal Training school and began her teaching career in a rural school near Cushing. She furthered her education at St. Cloud Teachers College. World War II took her to The Army Air Force Base at Chaunte Field in Illinois where she taught blue print reading and basic electricity to soldiers for three years during the war. In the 60s, she received a bachelor degree from Bemidji State. The many places she taught included District 38 in Meeker County, Aldrich, Verndale and many years in Staples.
Evelyn married Elmer Adams on March 19, 1945 in Rantoul, Illinois. She retired from teaching in 1978 and spent many winters in Texas, some close to two sisters, Ruth (Orville) Thiel and Vernice (Wilbur) Parliament who also spent some winters in Texas. She was a life long member of the Church of Christ starting in Batavia, Turtle Creek Township and then in Staples.
Evelyn enjoyed traveling and has been in all 50 states as well as many foreign countries including Puerto Rico where she helped at a school. She enjoyed spending time with family and church activities.
She is survived by one son, Dale (Susan) Adams of Aldrich and one granson, Michael Adams of Fargo, ND.
