Frank Jares, Sr.

Frank Victor Jares, 94 of Staples, MN, died Saturday August 24, 2019. A visitation will be held 4-8:00PM Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN. Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM Friday, August 30, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, MN. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.

Frank Victor Jares was born to Anthony and Mary (Nanik) Jares at their home in Byron Township, Cass County, Minnesota, on September 22, 1924. He was the 5th of ten children. During his lifetime Frank attended country school until the 8th grade. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Over the years, Frank was a jack of many trades, working in a variety of areas including school bus driver, fireman, building construction, cabinet maker, masonry work, welder, diesel mechanic, farming and logging. Frank proudly answered the call to serve his country. He was inducted into the US Army on March 14, 1944. He served with the 569th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany and France. While in the service, he was a truck driver, hauling ammunition and supplies, and an instructor. He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1946 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Years later Frank served as Commander of the Staples VFW Post 1910, and was a lifetime member of the Wadena VFW. When he wasn’t working, Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, and socializing with friends and family. He looked forward to his annual trips to the Colorado mountains to hunt elk with his brother Kenny. Frank was also an avid horseman and a member of the Bushwhacker Trail Riders, earning many “oldest rider” trophies along the way.

Frank is survived by his sister Katherine (Donald) Strack, Randall; children Elizabeth (Mark) Capistrant, Staples, Frank (Kim) Jares, Bertha, Keith Jares, Staples, Cheryl (Brent) Hahn, Verndale and Beverly (Fred) Williams of Milton, FL; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren (with 3 more on the way), 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and his equine friend Spot.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Henry, Floyd, Harold, Thomas, Donald and Kenneth; Sisters Marion Volner and Violet Peterson, Stepson Robert E Bruun, grandson Robert J Bruun and an infant son.
