George E. Pipek, 90, of Staples passed away September 26, 2018, at Lakewood Care Center in Staples.
Mass of Christian Burial for George will be held 11:00 am on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Joe Korf presiding. Gathering of family and friends from 9:30-11:00am also at the church. Interment Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
He was born on August 13, 1928 to Marie (Zelaney) and John Pipek in Browerville, MN. He joined the Army in 1950 after being discharged, he returned to his job as clerk for the NP Railroad and working for the U.S. Postal Service. He married Delores M. Martin on October 13, 1950. Together they raised five children.
George loved working in all aspects of the meaning, including sodding and tree trimming. Work was his passion, his drive to live, his reason to start another day.
When George retired he took up the hobby of woodworking which was self-taught. It all began in Dan’s garage and progressed to his own wood working shop. He also developed a love for watching birds and wildlife in his back yard.
His memberships included the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. George loved his family. He will always be remembered for his singing and dancing at all the family gatherings. George was a social butterfly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Albina, Millie, Lillian, and Ella. George will be deeply missed by his wife, Delores; children, Karen (Tom) Schuster of Plains, MT, Gary (Karen) Pipek of Staples, Dan (Anna) Pipek of Staples, Diane (Chuck) Gillespie of Staples, Pam (Greg) Schmitz of Perham; 24 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Barb Kulick of Anoka.
