Gerald (Jerry) Joseph Konen, 78, of Hutchinson, passed away March 30, 2018 at Harmony River Care Center, Hutchinson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Camp Ripley Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Randall VFW following the services.
Gerald was born January 22, 1940, in Pierz to Werner and Margaret (Kraft) Konen. They moved to a farm near Motley when he was 11. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, participating in football and basketball in high school, graduating from Motley High School in 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving in France where he met Lee Berry. They were married January 23, 1965. Gerald was stationed in many different air bases including England, Vietnam, Germany and Thailand, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1980. After his retirement from the service he worked with his brothers building houses. Gerald was involved with the VFW, was elected 6th District Commander of Central Minnesota and spent hours volunteering with the VFW making meals and participating in fundraisers. He enjoyed family get-togethers, sharing jokes and deer hunting.
Jerry is survived by his wife; two sons, Jerry of Cushing and Richard (Darren) of Rochester; four sisters, Rose Marie (Jerry Jambor) Zetah, Motley, Betty Weidendorf, Sauk Centre, Margaret (Edward) Doll, Golden Valley, Evelyn (Jerry) Blaine, Virginia Beach, VA; five brothers, James (Villa) Konen, Milaca, Raymond Konen, Green Valley, AZ, Werner (Judy) Konen, Dewey, AZ, Francis (Julie) Konen, Hutchinson and Leroy (Cindy) Konen, Anoka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Ann Zetah; brothers-in-law, Francis Zetah, Urban Zetah and Wayne Weidendorf; sisters-in-law Audrey Konen and Lilian Konen.
