Kathleen Doherty

Kathleen Ann Doherty, 64, of Motley, MN (formerly of Genoa, IL) died October 10, 2018 at her home. Services for Kathleen will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Motley Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM, Monday, October 15, 2018 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Motley Public Cemetery. 

She was born May 14, 1954 in Chicago, IL to Thomas F. Doherty and Constance M. (Borde) Doherty. Kathleen was raised in Mt. Prospect and Des Plaines, IL. She worked for the Chicago Tribune and Avaner, working with handicapped adults with whom she had a special bond. She spent many years working at the Oak Club of Genoa, where she was fortunate enough to work alongside her mother, Constance. Kathleen spent time working in the cafeteria at Lakewood Health System, where she had many friends. The staff at Lakewood treated her like family during her time there. Kathleen enjoyed golf and making people laugh. Above she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. 

Kathleen spent a lot of time researching her ancestors and documenting their accomplishments. Ultimately, she became the keeper of the Doherty family story. She was an avid collector of Christmas ornaments. Kathleen was one of a kind. She will be remembered as a loving and kind hearted woman with a quick wit and a serious backbone.

Kathleen had a very large family, all of whom were very important to her. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Thomas (Joan) Doherty, Michael (Virginia) Doherty, Susan (Mark) Bettis, John (Kimberly) Doherty, Diane (Greg) Karels, Mary (Don) Benvenuti, Constance (Dennis) Piehowski and Joseph (Virginia) Doherty; sister-in-laws, Renee Doherty, and Carol Doherty; her daughter, Jennifer Sandine; her grandson, Cody Rock; her granddaughters, Ashley Watts and Samantha Malone; her great-grandson, Jaxson Emrisko; extended family, Sue and Dee Doherty; and numerous nieces and nephews; whom she enjoyed spending time with. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Constance; and her older brothers, Patrick in 2017, and Daniel in 2001. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
