Kenneth W. Johnson
Kenneth W. (Ken) Johnson, 94, died November 6, 2018, in McKinney, Texas, holding his wife’s hand.
Interment was at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors.
Arrangements were by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funerals, North Texas.
Ken was born in Staples on November 21, 1923 to Luella (Bakke) and Albert V. Johnson. He attended school in Staples and St. Olaf College in Northfield graduating from the University of Minnesota. Ken was athletic and in college was a basketball star and an excellent golfer for most of his life. He received a graduate degree from Harvard University. Ken served in the US Navy during WWII and served as Navigator Executive Officer for his ship, LST 911. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant seeing action in the Pacific. Ken married Christine G.L. Nelson in 1950. They enjoyed their summer cabin near Cripple Creek in Colorado, spending time hiking, the outdoors and local history. Ken was an avid photographer, collector and student of Cripple Creek and Colorado history and natural beauty.
Ken is survived by his wife of 68 years; three daughters, Susan, Sheryl and Sally and one son, Mark; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Douglas Johnson.
The family requests memorials be sent to the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5401 Free Ferry Rd. Fort Smith, Arkansas 72903.
