Marge Evans
Marjorie J. Evans, age 90, of Staples and Sylvan Lake, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Staples. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Interment will be at Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND, at a later date.
Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home, Staples.
Marge was born on October 20, 1928 in Bowesmont, ND to Robert and Bee (Walker) Somers. She lived in Downer, MN during her elementary school years, and in Grafton, ND during high school, from which she graduated. Marge received her college degree from Mayville State College, where she met Mark Evans. They were married on June 12, 1949 in Grafton. Marge obtained her master’s degree in education from Bemidji State University. She taught elementary school in Portland, ND, Sebeka and Staples. Marge also taught music for four years at 17 rural schools in Todd County. Marge taught workshops for creating educational training materials for elementary teachers, which were offered to teachers in several states for Continuing Education Credit. Marge retired from teaching after 33 years in the Staples School District.
She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, a Director-At-Large in the State of Minnesota Retired Teachers Educators Association, and a member of the Bosom Buddies cancer organization.
Marge is survived by one son, Dr. David Evans (Dr. Katherine Tomsich-Evans) of Colorado; daughter-in-law, Deborah Schlichting of Edina and six grandchildren, Corwin, Kendric, Garion, Katryna, Mackenzie and Erin.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark Evans, Sr. and son, Dr. Mark Evans, Jr.
