Marian Laust

Marian Laust, 94, of Wadena passed away at her home February 23, 2021, with family by her side, after a brief battle with cancer. She was under the tender care of Lakewood Health System Hospice.

A public memorial service celebrating her life was held March 1, at the United Methodist Church in Hewitt with Pastor Ken Uhren presiding.

Marian was born to Charlie and Lola (Coley) Melton on July 28, 1926 in Charlotte, NC. She was united in marriage to Charles Clifford Laust on February 14, 1945. She worked  outside of the home briefly for Orrin’s Lumber in Bertha. Most of her time was spent as a dedicated homemaker, mother and foster parent to over 40 children over the years.

She loved her family, both those “down south” as well as “up north”. Family brought her much joy and she strove to make each member feel important and loved. She was especially devoted to her ‘greats’ as she referred to her great-grandchildren. She also loved her adopted family, those that proved over the years to be just as dedicated to her as related by blood.

She had many passions in life. She was an avid quilter and has made many beautiful quilts in her time. She taught herself how to carve eggs, creating intricate carvings into ostrich, emu, duck and other various types of eggs. She perfected the art of creating elaborate scenes on miniature eggs. She was a master gardener and loved showing her beautiful yard with an abundance of different flowers. She enjoyed watching the many birds dance around her yard, particularly the two pairs of cardinals that appeared each year.

Preceding Marian in death were her husband, Charles “Chuck”; parents; one son, Earl “Chip” and one daughter, Brenda Laust and son-in-law, Barry Klemek.

Memories of Marian will be treasured by her daughter, Robin Klemek of Hewitt; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Laust of Hewitt; five grandchildren, Matthew Klemek of Bertha, Megan (Eddie) Dolezal of Bertha, Michael (Ashley) Klemek of Deer Creek, Shawn Laust of MN and Shane Laust of WY; 10 great-grandchildren, Max Klemek, Lauren, Alexa, Claire and Rylee Dolezal, Ryan Klemek, Chris, Allison, Austin and Tiffany Laust of MN; two sisters, Francis (Tankie) Davis of NC and Myra (Clyde) Simpson of FL; along with a host of family, friends and neighbors.

Honorary urn bearers were her great-grandchildren.

Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Wadena.

Arrangements were by the Schuller Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services’, Johnson-Schuller Chapel, Wadena (www.SchullerFamilyFH.com).
