Marilyn Tyrrell
Marilyn Tyrrell, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 1, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Halvorson Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Marilyn was born August 7, 1942, to Orville and Clarice (Lerbakken) Sundsrud in Wildrose, North Dakota. At the age of 15, she moved to Staples, where she graduated from Staples High School. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, David Tyrrell. The two were married on June 17, 1962, and shared 62 wonderful years together.
A woman of remarkable drive and creativity, Marilyn spent many years owning and operating a local florist shop. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to also open a fabric shop, work at Batcher’s Department Store, and waitress - all with dedication and a personal touch that made her a cherished presence in the community.
Marilyn found great joy in time spent with family, chatting with friends, shopping and traveling with David. Together, they visited nearly all 50 states and made a memorable trip to Norway.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, David Tyrrell; one son, Neil Tyrrell; one daughter, Collette (Roger) Knoll; four grandchildren, September (Christopher) Dehen, Kandace (Aaron) Weise, Jessica Knoll and Taylor Tyrrell; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Connor and Tanner Dehen and Aubree, Brielle and Ellie Weise; one sister, Beverly (Donald) Gaalswyk and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter and one sister, Geraldine Sundsrud.
