Mary Stangle-Hess

Mary Catherine Stangle-Hess, 57, of Staples  passed away May 30, 2018, at her home following a courageous battle with ocular melanoma.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on Sunday June 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Landmark Inn, 631 3rd Ave., Staples. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church,  Staples with Father Joseph Korf officiating.

Interment will follow at the family plot at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Staples with a gathering of fellowship at the church following.

Mary was born December 14, 1961, in Minneapolis to James and Joyce Mohler.

Mary’s greatest love was her family, followed by her love of being in the woods. She was an avid hunter, passionate gardener and found joy and peace with nature. She was a business woman, crusader, fighter for the underdog and offered a trusting, helping hand. Her many talents and interests made her short life a kaleidoscope of memories. One of her greatest career accomplishments was receiving her nursing degree and working as a hospice nurse. 

Mary is survived by her parents; four children, Scott Stangle (Shannon Middendorf), Sauk Center, Alyssa Stangle, Staples, Hannah (Jacob) Krebs, Duluth and Joseph Hess, Fargo; six grandchildren, Jakob, Jaden,Timothy and Kyra Stangle, Josiah and Jaxton Critten; three sisters, Ann Ohmann, St. Cloud, Jennifer Braun, Brainerd, Kate Mohler, Chandler, AZ and one brother, Craig Mohler, Des Moines, IA; two nieces, Shanna Wahlstrand and Maria Ohmann; one nephew, James C. Mohler and her dog, Loki.

Mary was preceded in death by grandparents, Clarence and Lotus Mohler, Leo and Elizabeth Wettstein; one nephew, Matthew Wahlstrand and brother-in-law, James Braun.

Those desiring may make memorial donations towards the planting of a tree in Mary’s honor at the Northern Pacific Park, Staples or to Staples Motley Dollars for Scholars.
