Mary Bernadette Wartner (Keating), 84, of Motley, passed away at her home on March 16, 2021.
Mass of Christian burial was held March 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples.
Mary was born on November 13, 1936 in St. Paul to Joseph and Margaret Keating. On October 10, 1962 Mary and Hubert joined their families to become one. They milked cows and farmed until 1980 when they bought the Ten Hi Bar, owning it until 1986. They started a remodeling business in the Twin Cities and Mary worked as a home health aide and loved her job caring for the elderly. The couple retired and started a thrift store in Starbuck, and then moved back to the Staples area. Mary enjoyed puzzles, reading, singing, dancing, bingo and above all else, loved spending time with family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by 12 children, Michele Juergens (Georgie Westlund), Patricia Keating, Barry Wartner, Jerry Wartner (Billie Wartner), Brenda Logan (Art), Julie Leyba (David), Linda Smith (Randy), Jonna Kenney (Curt), Mary Hall, Jeryl Mertens (Ed), Laurel (Lorrie) Gold and Bernie Balint (Kim); 41 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert Wartner; one sister, Margaret Duffy; one brother, Joseph Keating and one son, Michael Grittner.
Arrangements were by the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
