Michael Flansburg

Michael Lloyd Flansburg, 61, formerly of Staples, died March 17, 2023, at his home in Hinkley after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion in Hinckley on May 6, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplin Allen Blegen officiating.

Michael was born December 12, 1961 to Lloyd and Carol (Draves) Flansburg in Wadena. He attended Staples High School and in 1980 joined the U.S. Marine Corps.  Following his basic training in California he served in Panama and at Camp Lejune.

He met Anita Kitchenmaster in 1986 and they were married on August 21, 1993.

Michael worked at Grand Casino Hinkley for 10 years,  Asbestos Abatement for 10 years and various jobs throughout his life from powder coating to gas station attendant.

Michael enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, roller skating, video games, music and dancing.  With his easy-going and laid-back nature he made many friends and he will be missed by many. He was a loving husband who loved his children and grandchildren very much.

Despite spending so much of his last year in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his grown children, made silly faces with his grandchildren and even pulled some light-hearted pranks on the nurses. Michael had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Flansburg of Hinkley; one daughter, Savanna (Jeremy) Albedyll of St. Cloud; four sons, Christopher Flansburg, Michael Flansburg and Alex Flansburg, all of Hinkley and Tyler Flansburg of St. Cloud; one grandson, Steven Spencer of Brainerd; two granddaughters, Kailynne and Zoe Albedyll of St. Cloud; his father, Lloyd (Jacqueline) Flansburg of Motley; three brothers, Mark (Sabine) Flansburg of Heilbronn, Germany, Darin (Lisa) Flansburg of Motley and Gordon “Dean” (Holly) Flansburg of Bemidji.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Carol Draves in 2006; one uncle, Ronald Draves in 2006 and one aunt, Vivian Dickman in 2017.
