Raymond Martin

Raymond Charles Martin, 89, of Staples, passed away July 29, 2021, at Lakewood Health Care System in Staples. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held August 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Aaron Kuhn presiding. 

Interment was at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Ray and his wife, Barb, raised six children on their farm east of Staples, where he had lived all of his life, except for his time in the service in Korea. He was proud of his time in the U.S. Army and  was active in the Staples VFW for many years. When Ray returned to Staples, he worked for the railroad for 35 years, but he was always a farmer/gardener at heart. After the passing of Barb in 1992, he was later united in marriage to Angie Judd. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and watching his grandchildren and his flowers grow. He was known for his sense of humor and told many stories which may or may have not been true. He leaves behind six children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ray will be deeply missed by his wife, Angie; children, Chuck (Pamela) Martin of Brainerd, Diane (John) Hertwig of Paynesville, Randy Martin of Florida, Margie (Mark) Sanaker of Becker, Melissa (Steve) Vukelich of Breezy Point, Teresa (Kevin) Hilger of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Bo, Chelsea, Andy (Sydney), Ashley (Jacob) Frieler, Evan, Ben, Kara, Jacob, Mackenzie, Ryan, Colton and Addison; great-granddaughter, Holland; two sisters, Mary Lee Becker and Darlene (Rollie) Gode, both of Staples. He is also survived by Angie’s children, Bob (Debbie) Hill, Tim (Janet) Hill, Kris (Vic) Berggren, Mike (Brenda) Hill and Kelly Peabody; grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay, Tarah, Tyler,  Angela, Mandy, Jared, Anna, Tommy and Caleb; great-granchildren, Aiden, Jacie, Eretria, Ashlynn, Austin, Eliliana, Miles and Jameson.

Ray is preceded in death by his first wife, Barb (Cunningham) Martin; one brother, Gerald and one sister, Delores Pipek.

Arrangments were by Taylor Funeral Home, Staples.
