Rodney Mertens

Rodney David Mertens, 63, of Crosslake, passed away May 17, 2017 at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd.

Private family services will be held.

Arrangements were by the Brenny Funeral Chapel, Staples.

Rodney was born May 7, 1954, in Bertha, to David and Violet (Mapes) Mertens. He attended Staples High School and Wadena Vocational Technical College for telephone technician. Rodney worked for 30 plus years for Crosslake Telephone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle rides and working on his ’67 Challenger.

Rodney is survived by one sister, Gloria (Dave) Perfetti of Staples; one nephew, Joshua Perfetti; three nieces, Kelli (Jason) Welter, Marnie (Matt) Galston and Brittne (Andrew) Gabrielson; and several great nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
