Rosella Ross

Rosella “Sally”(Marr) Ross, 94, of Staples, passed away February 11, 2017 at Lakewood Helath System Care Center in Staples.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., prior to services at the church.

Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Staples, in the spring.

Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.

Rosella (Sally) Violet was born January 11, 1923 in Johnson, to Emil and Lydia (Spilker) Modrow. Sally was confirmed in 1936, graduated from Clarissa High School in 1941 and moved to the Grand Rapids area where she worked candling eggs before the war. Sally married Harold “Elmer” Marr on June 4, 1947. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in many church activities. Sally was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, enjoyed gardening, yard work, being outside, loved music and playing the guitar and piano. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elmer passed away in 1976.Sally worked at Batcher’s Dept Store in Staples and later she married Richard Ross and they moved to Grand Rapids. Richard passed away and Sally moved to River Hills Assisted Living in Cambridge.In 2009, Sally moved to the Lakewood Care Center in Staples.  Sally was  a member of the care center chior and was named Queen of the Care Center for the Railroad Days celebration held in Staples each summer.

She is survived by two daughters, Andrea (Elmer) Johnson, of Isanti and Dianne (Curt) Meyers, of Foley; two sons, Mallory (Sandra) Marr, of Waubun and Glen (Karen Shea) Marr, of Champlin; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; one granddaughter, Melissa; five sisters, Tina, Caroline, Darlene, Barbara and Betty; and one brother, Mike.  w7c A00006B2017FB16
