Rudolph Bjerga, Sr.
Rudolph “Rudy” A. Bjerga, Sr., 79, of Staples, passed away unexpectedly December 26, 2021, at Lakewood Health System Hospital, Staples.
Services were held January 3, 2022, at the Motley Free Methodist Church
Interment was at the Motley Public Cemetery.
Rudy was born July 22, 1942, to Mikkel and Leona (Quade) Bjerga. He grew up on a farm north of Motley. He married Joan Kowalski on September 24, 1960. They moved to the Twin Cities where he worked for Gateway Transportation for nearly 20 years. They moved back to Motley and purchased their farm and the Friendly Inn. He started Bjerga Construction and hauled cattle for Tri-County Livestock in Motley. He was the Villard Township Supervisor for 30 years, was on the Todd County Planning and Zoning Board and was the state Fire Warden for the DNR. Rudy enjoyed visiting with people at the Friendly Inn over the years. He always loved a good party. He enjoyed hanging out at his son’s pole barns with their friends to find out the local news. He would always say he would never retire and he was active every day until he passed.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 61 years; two daughters, Laurie (Mike) Craft and Gloria (Barry) Jansson; two sons, Rudy (Mary) Bjerga, Jr. and Joey (Lorrie) Bjerga; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two brothers, Mike (Judy) Bjerga and Dale (Lorna) Bjerga.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Ryan Jansson.
Arrangements were by the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
