Shirley Dennning

Shirley Denning, 82, of Staples, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Lakewood Health System Hospice Suite in Staples.  

Services were held  March 1, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Carl Larson officiating. 

Shirley was born February 19, 1937 in Pine River  to Frank and Marie (Watzelt) Erickson. She grew up in Staples and attended Lincoln Model School. Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond Denning on December 31, 1955 in Calendar, IA. She was passionate about children and worked with Headstart, and was a school bus driver for the Staples Area School District. Shirley enjoyed cards, games, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, dancing with her husband, Ray. She was an active member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Shirley loved to feed people and enjoyed cooking, canning, writing poetry, country music and Sunday rides, any day of the week. She was a social butterfly who was quick with a joke and loved to laugh. She was a loving mother and wife who’s family meant everything to her. 

Shirley is survived by her children, Ray (Wei Wei) Denning of Mound, Sandra (Michael) Cox of Apple Valley, CA, Ron (Cindy) Denning of Staples, Doug Denning of Staples, Todd Denning of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Kelly Sikora, Nicholas Cox, Scott Cox, Joshua Denning, Erin Denning, Kate Denning, Jacob Denning, Hallie Bergeson, Jordan Denning; great grandchildren, Ryan Castro, Ethan Rodine, Makayla Rodine, Christopher Luxsamana, Zoe Cox, Lydia Schelin, Owen Denning, Leo Bergeson, Lynn Marie Mosig, Leelah Schelin; brother-in-law, Dean Denning; sister-in-law, Elaine Erickson; many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; seven brothers; and three sisters. 

Arrangements were by Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples.
