Vern Hedquist
Vern Hedquist, 59, of Pillager, passed away tragically on October 2, 2018, while performing geotechnical evaluation on I-94.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sat., Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Pillager. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vernon Carl Hedquist was born November 4, 1958, to Carl and Berniece Hedquist in Brainerd. He married Cindy Pietz on August 5, 1984.
Vern began his career at WSB in 2014. Prior to that he was employed at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) since 1991. Vern was working as part of a team collecting important data for an upcoming DOT project when the accident occurred. During his tenure at WSB, he liked personal interations, was attentive in conversations and enjoyed learning. His hobbies included deer and pheasant hunting, four-wheeling and family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife; four-legged kids Hannah, Sadie and Buddy; parents; one sister, Linda (Ben) Wicklund; one brother, Kevin (Terri) Hedquist; Cindy’s mom, RoseMarie Pietz; brother-in-law, Ron (Kathy) Pietz; 10 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; special niece, Rhonda Christman; great-nieces Jessa and Josephine Kimman; nephews Christopher Pietz and Jeremy Christman.
He was preceded in death by Cindy’s dad, Albert Pietz; grandparents, John and Jenny Hedquist and Rudolph and Ida Haux; uncles Jim Haux, Carl Holsapple and Willard Hedquist; aunts Debbie Holsapple and Florence Eide.
