Activities for all ages, easy to enter exhibits

We would like to invite everyone to the Motley Fair! This year the Motley Fair and Motley June Fest are being held in conjunction with each other so there will something for everyone to do.

The fair runs June 17-19 and June Fest activities will be June 18 and 19.

On Friday the fair will be settling in and the 4-H Horse Show will be going on. Friday evening we will be hosting our first Bull Bash and we’ll be finishing the evening with a DJ under the shelter.

On Saturday, we start the day off early with the kid’s wood shop from 9:30-11:30 a.m. under the shelter.Bring your kids in to build a birdhouse all by themselves.

At 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. we have the Amazing Roberto Magic show under the shelter, as well as the L.A. Pig Races at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the horse arena.

In the Grandstand Saturday at 7 p.m. we have the Demo Derby at the same prices as last year. At 7:30 p.m. the teen band “Disaster Area” will play for our teens. They are a young band from Long Prairie.

On Sunday we start off the day at 1 p.m. with our 8th Annual Farmers Olympics. Put a team of three people together and sign up in the 4-H building. We have some fun team games and prizes for the top three teams. This is hosted by our Staples Motley FFA and everyone has a blast.

On Sunday at 1 p.m. we also will be hosting our lawnmower pull in the grandstand arena.

The Staples Motley Baseball team will set up a dunking booth Friday 4-8 p.m., Saturday 12-8 p.m. and Sunday 12-4  p.m. as a fundraiser for their team so come out and dunk a player.

We would like to take a moment to explain to the community how easy it is to enter open class and school projects at our fair.

First of all we all have flowers in our homes and gardens that we are proud of. Bring your cut flowers in a vase, your potted flowers in a pot. It is that simple. There are over 150 different classes in this division. The entry fee is only 50¢ and you can find all the flower classes on page 14 and 15 of our premium book. All flowers need to be entered Thursday but do not have to be there until Friday.

For those who have vegetables that are ready they can be found on page 14 of our premium book as well. There are over 100 classes in this division. The entry fee is 50¢.

For those who have fruits they can also be found on page 14 of our premium book. There are 42 different classes in this division and the entry fee is also 50¢.

For those who have crops that may be ready, we have 20 different classes for this division on pages 13 and 14.

We also have Arts and Crafts which includes wood crafts, leather work, paintings, hobbies, collections, stamping, sculptures, silk flowers and photography with over 100 classes to enter. Again, the entry fee is only 50¢. These divisions can be found on pages 16, 17 and 18.

Some of our other divisions are needlework, sewing and foods with over 400 classes and an entry fee of only 50¢. These classes can be found on pages 18, 19 and 20.

For those of us who have children in school I know you all have little projects that your children have made since kindergarten. There are 132 different classes for school projects and there is no entry fee.The classes of grades K-12 are judged by age group, not altogether.

For those of you who have animals such as rabbits, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens. There are classes for all of you. Some animals need to have vet ID tags or tattoos. The rules are listed in the General Requirements on page 10 of our premium book, and there are 38 classes in the beef and dairy cattle divisions. Sheep can be found on page 11 with 30 different classes. Poultry is on page 12 with 46 classes. The entry fee for animals is $1.
