Local leadership matters reaching broadband goals
Recently a team from Blandin Foundation was in Staples to celebrate the wrap-up of our partnership with the Resilient Region through the Blandin Broadband Communities (BBC) program. What we saw was impressive: a diverse group of dedicated broadband champions working together to make their communities better.
The Resilient Region Champions have been working for several years to develop a five-county strategic plan to increase the vitality of the region. They recognized from the start that broadband was important, and through their work on the BBC program, they came to realize that broadband touched all regional projects.
In the past 18 months, the BBC steering committee chose a wide-variety of projects, including: telehealth training, enhanced classroom technology, expansion of PCs for People computer refurbishing programs at The Shop and on the Leech Lake Reservation, videoconferencing for the community, marketing, a Hackfest, the “What the Tech?” technology expo, studied the economic impact of infrastructure expansion, and created the Brainerd Lakes Talent Recruiter position.
Local leadership matters. Blandin Foundation congratulates Stacy Stockdill of Ensearch for her leadership, the staff of Region Five Development Commission for their organizational support, and commends everyone who participated in the work of the Steering Committee for your vision and dedication to building a more connected community with opportunity for all.
